WELCOME

I have a background in theater, specifically costume design. More details on previous projects can be found here~! My work in arts administration prepared me for grant writing, copyediting, and working with ticketing and marketing for theaters. I have been playing roller derby for 4 years now, and that group has prepared me for any sort of community building and dedication that a sport needs. It truly brings me joy.

I worked backstage in college on at least four shows every semester for the first three years. The final year was a cumulative project based experience for designing and preparing the arts administrative work to complete the concentration with my degree. I love working backstage and being part of the action. There is nothing like choreographing a quick change and watching the actor fly off stage, whirl them into a new costume in under 30 seconds, and send them back onstage with a smile and a moment of calm. Being prepared is vital to this work, and it takes a lot of trust.

This trust that I constantly build also supports my work as a stage manager. My mission is to make everyone else’s job easier. My main priority is always the actors’ safety, the team’s communication, and timely collaboration. There are moments where conflict arises and I always rely on working through conflict with conversation. The goal is to continue the show.

Alex played a vital role on my marketing team when the Connecticut Repertory Theatre had to go virtual due to COVID-19. [She] quickly learned to use a new CMS (WordPress) and helped deploy digital versions of the CRT playbills. [She] always came with a positive attitude and creative ideas for social media marketing, which helped us be successful even under the most unlikely circumstances. I wholeheartedly recommend [her] for any role [she] pursues!

[Burns’] attitude was great during their time with Athens Ohio Roller Derby. They were always willing to work with other league members, even those whose skill set wasn’t on par with theirs. Everyone would generally gather around [Burns], as they simply are a good, genuine person who loves the sport and the people they get to play it with. Burns wears their heart on their sleeve, so it was easy to see when Burns was excited or having a good time. It’s also easy to see when they need a second to regroup if frustrated. The great thing about this trait is that regardless of which end of the spectrum, it seemed to make Burns a better skater and teammate. It was in the tough times that Burns was able to reassess what they were doing, figure out what their teammates needed, and make the corrections. They truly are the epitome of a “team first” player.

(Re: Complex Saturday Schedule) Thank you! Yes, the intricacy of that schedule was worthy of the rose window at Chartres.
